Dunfermline Athletic FC v Fc St. Pauli
Friendship & Football, headlined by The Wakes
A day to celebrate unity, inclusivity, and fan culture.
Date: Friday 23rd June 2023
Venue: Alhambra Theatre, 33-35 Canmore St, Dunfermline, KY12 7NX
Update from DAFC:
While the intention was always to announce further acts and ensure a balanced Dunfermline Athletic presence at the pre and post match events we understand supporters feelings at the time of the original announcement. A full update is below and we hope there is something for all supporters to look forward to ahead of our exciting clash with FC St. Pauli.
As part of the pre match event at The Alhambra Theatre we’re delighted to welcome the Dunfermline Athletic Former Players Association, compered by Jason Barber, who will be hosting a pre match Q+A with some of our favourite heroes. We are also delighted to announce an event sponsor, with local fashion brand Stjarna. Inspired by terrace culture, lifestyle and music, the fashion brand will be in place showcasing some of their latest lines.
A live DJ will also provide the music as the theatre auditorium will act as a space for supporters of both sides to come together pre match. Traditional German fare will also be provided by “ontheroll” German Bratwurst with a choice of toppings – fried onions, Sauerkraut, homemade curry sauce, mustard, and ketchup.
Warming up for The Wakes we’re delighted to announce local Dunfermline act ‘Twins Town‘. (Brought to you by Whanga Records) Fronted by infamous identical twins Donald (The Hornet) and Stuart (Smackay) Mackay. The brothers have more than earned their rock n’ roll stripes playing in previous bands Wingnuts and Wölves, when they performed as far afield as Amsterdam, and not to mention in the rock n’ roll Mecca of The Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow. Indie rock ‘n’ roll with a great energy and personality that shines through.
‘The Wakes‘ will headline our post match party with lead signer Paul Sheriden sharing his excitement on the upcoming event;
“We are looking forward immensely to being part of FC St. Pauli and Dunfermline’s day, performing at the historic venue that is the Alhambra Theatre.
Over the past 15 years we have been fortunate to be involved with some of St Pauli’s landmark events, including their 100th Birthday concert, Fabian Boll’s testimonial game and to collaborate with the club in supporting refugee charities in Germany through our single, “No human is illegal”.
This is certainly a tale of two clubs and football is ultimately the winner here. In the past we have shared a stage with artists and musicians associated with St Pauli subculture such as Los Fastidos and Slime, as well Dunfermline rock royalty in the form of Richard Jobson and we look forward to celebrating both teams through song.
We are looking forward to playing our brand of Folk’n’Roll, which is a mixture of keltic music fused with punk rock and funk, dealing with subject matter such as anti-fascist and anti-racist politics, immigration, unemployment and the struggle of the working class.
Our musical influences include The Pogues, The Clash, Dropkick Murphy’s and it is wonderful to be able to perform in the Kingdom of Fife, a place that gave us Big Country, whose style has been hugely influential on our own sound particularly on our last album.”
During the evening event we’ll be joined by the members of the Dunfermline Athletic and FC St. Pauli Club Board, staff and players, who will all be in attendance.
